SUPPORT SERVICES:

Academia San José provides food services through a kiosk run independently by two former alumnae. Beginning at 6:30 a.m., the kiosk sells hot cereal and other light breakfast food. It is a common practice of many parents to enjoy breakfast with their children. A hot dish, salads, sandwiches, and other light food is available during recess for students who wish to purchase their lunch.

HEALTH

In accordance with the requirements of the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, all students who enroll in Academia San José must present evidence of a medical examination and each year the immunization record must be updated. If a child suffers an accident or becomes too ill to remain in school, the parents or guardian are contacted immediately. If the student is seriously ill or injured, the school follows the specific instructions in the student's record or calls 911 while awaiting instructions from the parent or guardian or their arrival. A registered nurse is on duty during regular school hours for minor first aid assistance. The school is located within ten minutes of three major hospitals.

GUIDANCE

Guidance at Academia San José is an ongoing effort. It is provided at the elementary and intermediate levels by a clinical and educational psychologist with a PHD in her field. Students are offered religious, emotional, psychological and academic support at their request or as requested by a teacher or parent. Academically, the school offers an after school program whereby students who must wait for parent pick up can be assisted in their homework or tutored in a specific subject. Religious guidance is offered through the daily classes of religious instruction in the Catholic Christian Faith and the opportunity to participate in religious activities.

TRANSPORTATION

The majority of our students are driven to school by a parent or guardian. There are a few privately operated buses that offer daily transportation service according to individual arrangements made directly by the bus owner and the parents. On occasions when students travel in groups to cultural and religious activities, the school arranges for chartered service either by those who provide school transportation or a commercial company. The cost of this transportation is paid by the students.

Transportation to sports competitions held in other schools after school hours is coordinated through the parents of the team members.

Few of our students live within walking distance of our school. Public transportation is not a viable option.
